A remix that hasn’t been commissioned by or given approval by the original rights holder will be classed as unofficial. If a release is distributed to digital music services without clearance from the rights holder it will be subject to copyright infringement notices and subsequently taken down. It’s important to be sure when you’re uploading a remix that you have all the necessary permissions from the rights holder.
Please note that unofficial remixes are something we look for during our QA process. If we find one, we’ll contact you to confirm the rights on the product and will review the account.
A cover song that has changed the composition, even if slightly, will have the same penalties as unofficial remixes. There’s some more information about what to do and what not to do when uploading a cover song here.
